A Miss USA contestant has carried out to become the first model with Down Syndrome to seem on the quilt of Sports Illustrated Swimwear edition.

Mikayla Holmgren, 26, from Marine St Croix, Minnesota, left the level with two awards after impressing judges at the Miss Minnesota contest.

As part of her challenge to make the modelling world extra inclusive, she used to be the first lady with Down syndrome to participate in the beauty festival.

The model has now applied to appear in the subsequent bikini version of Sports Illustrated magazine.

Mikayla recorded a video explaining why she would be perfect – and why it’s time they made her the first model with Down syndrome to function in the publication. 

‘To have Down syndrome in it's really to show others they are able to be extra accepting.

‘Sports Illustrated Swim has been this sort of champion of the variety of beauty. Now is the time to include any individual like me,’ she mentioned.

‘I am a dancer, a model, public speaker, and school graduate. I am the first girl with Down syndrome to compete in the Miss USA state competition.

Since beginning her modelling career in 2015, Mikayla has featured in campaigns for Sephora, Rosedale Mall, and Sigma Beauty. 

She competed in Minnesota state’s preliminary competition for the Miss USA beauty pageant in 2017 and won the ‘Spirit of Miss USA’ award and the Director’s Award and is now waiting to pay attention if her software to seem in the next bikini version of Sports Illustrated magazine has been a hit.

‘I did modelling for magazines and I just liked doing it. Modelling is an artistic artwork.

‘It has been a good alternative to have, to carry extra pleasure and be more concerned and it’s really cool doing it.’

‘I haven’t given up hope but! 

‘I would like to have my own clothes line some day and make-up. I need to cross more into fashion and be a clothier and do one thing with children.

‘I need to succeed in so much. I always dream large, I've objectives and cross do it.

‘There’s not anything preventing other people from residing your life these days. Just practice your dreams’,’ she added.

Sports Illustrated Swimsuit was first printed in 1964 and has not too long ago been taking steps to building up diversity within the models in the mag.
